procrastinating, still.

top five movies of all time:

1. When Harry Met Sally...

This movie means more to me than any other movie in the world. My sister and I watched it before and after every major turning point in our lives - I don't know why. There's something so comfortable about the ritual of watching it and quoting all the lines. We watched it together for the first time in a few years last winter. It was sad how much we'd forgotten. Movies like this give me unrealistic expectations about love, but it could be worse.

2. The Philadelphia Story.

The greatest of the screwball comedies. I want to marry someone like Jimmy Stewart's character. I love Tracy's line to George, when he points out that she wasn't thinking too highly of herself either - "Somehow, I hoped that you would expect better of me."

3. Hard-Boiled.

Chow Yun-Fat. Tony Leung Chiu-Wai. Homoerotic tension left and right. yum.

4. A bout de souffle (Breathless).

Another frequently ripped-off film. How gorgeous are Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg? It's such a modern film in that there's no redemption, no happy ending, and Patricia's fate is so ambiguous. He loves her because of her naivete but being with him makes her no better than he is, in the end. and the classic lines: "(Mon ambition?) Devenir immortel. Et puis mourir." (My ambition? To become immortal. And then die.)

5. Children of Paradise.

The most beautiful film ever made. Period. The backstory is good, too.

In the spirit of IMX, which I have never seen and yet heard about twice this weekend, here's the recent music-related activity in domain of Chen for the week of March 2nd, 2003.

1. 20GB iPod.
Last week: -
Only downside - I have 30 GB of music. Also, despite expressed desire to listen to all of music collection whenever I want, I'm still just going to end up listening to the same 3 things over and over again.

2. Ted Leo, Hearts of Oak.
Last week: 1.

3. Cousteau, Cousteau.
Last week: -
An oldish but goodie. Supremely obsessed with "Last Good Day of the Year," "Jump In the River," and "One Good Reason."

4. The Reputation, "Some Senseless Day"
Last week: 3
Still a damn good song, but seeing it twice live over the weekend may have helpd satisfy my need to hear it repeatedly.

5. Stars, Heart.
Last week: 2.
Probably will fall more. it's not holding my interest well, other than "Heart" and "The Vanishing".
